Moyie man gets 10 years in prison for casino robbery

A Moyie Springs man who robbed a Libby, Mont., casino and led authorities on high-speed chase to within miles of the Idaho border was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Michael James Davis, 37, of Moyie Springs admitted to armed robbery and felony criminal endangerment for robbing the Lucky Logger Casino on Sept. 11.

“I’m going to resist the temptation to give you more than what is agreed to in the plea agreement,” District Court Judge Michael Prezeau told Davis .

A parolee out of Lewis and Clark County with felony convictions of theft, forgery and drug distribution, Davis will also have to fulfill a prior suspended sentence in prison.

As part of the plea agreement, the prosecution agreed to withdraw its Notice of Persistent Felony Offender, a status that would tack on a minimum of five additional years to his prison sentence.

“You’ve made some terrible mistakes in your life and one more, you’re just about going to flush your life all the way down the toilet,” Prezeau warned. “A multi-time felon can’t go around waving guns in people’s faces… and going down the highway 100 mph, putting people’s lives in danger.”
