Walk Aabout

| March 25, 2010 9:00 PM

The first annual Boundary County Walkabout will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, Saturday, April 10, with a special kick-off event at the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Start  participation in this community-wide walking challenge the smart way by enjoying a wide variety of safety demonstrations and mini-workshops along with a little sightseeing and limbering up walking around the Refuge and its neighborhood.

Fitness experts will provide tips on safe walking for diabetics and folks in cardiovascular rehab as well as explaining safe stretching and warm-up exercises.

Other experts will provide tips on staying safe walking the roads and trails of Boundary County, from rules of the road to walking safe in bear and moose country.  There will also be presentations covering walking safe with  pets.

Presentations on safe and fun explorations of the refuge will be led by members of the Friends of the Refuge and will include bird identification, bird-watching tips, and guided tours.

Backcountry possibilities will be showcased by representatives from the Bonners Ferry Ranger Station.

Be aware this is a critical time of the year for the wildlife population at the Refuge and strict observance of Refuge rules and access limits is necessary.

Please, no pets at the event.
