| May 6, 2010 9:00 PM

Bonners Ferry Baseball lost a hard fought baseball game to St. Maries 7 to 6 on Senior day.

The Badgers had a record eight seniors on this year’s team;  CJ Erickson, Colton Telford, Zach Maas, Ryan Wilson, Robby Gust, Joe Neumeyer, Alex Kellogg, and Carey Reynolds.

St. Maries scored three quick runs in the first inning when Brad Anderson hit a single, Jaden Guidry was hit by a pitch and Bryant Appel walked and later scored on a throwing error from Alex Kellogg.  The Badgers responded in the bottom of the first when juniors Alek Lopez and Matt Holak walked and later scored on a two-run double from Kellogg.

St. Maries added four more runs in the top of the third inning when they got four hits.  After The Lumberjacks were leading 7 to 3, the Badgers chipped away by scoring a run in the fourth when Telford hit a double and later scored on a fielder’s choice from sophomore Josiah Owinyo.  Bonners Ferry added another run in the fifth when Lopez walked again and scored on an error from the St. Maries shortstop.

The Badgers loaded the bases in the sixth inning and added two more runs scoring Owinyo and freshman Garrett Skeen when Holak hit a two-run double.  The Badgers had two runners on in the bottom of the 7th inning when the game ended.

Senior Zach Maas pitched a great game allowing seven hits, striking out nine and walking five batters.  “Zach pitched a gutty performance in his final home game of his career.  I asked him in the fifth inning if he wanted to pitch more and he said he wanted to pitch the entire game” Coach Turpin said.

Bonners Ferry plays Kellogg in a doubleheader tomorrow in Kellogg.  This will be the last two games on the season before District playoffs.
