Badger Golf Team Advances to State Tourney
The Badger boys golf team claimed second place at Monday’s District 1-2 tournament at the Links Golf Course in Post Falls, edging third place St. Maries by one shot to claim one of two IML berths to next week’s State Tournament.
Paced by the second-place finish of senior Carey Reynolds, who shot a 5-over par 77, the Badgers collectively shot 346 to the Lumberjacks 347. Junior Aaron Moe shot an 81, good enough for a fourth-place tie, while junior Chase Mellon and freshman Evan Moe shot 88 and 100, respectively.
“It was a great time for Chase to shoot a score that he has been capable of shooting most of the year,” said coach Chad Deitz. “It was perfect timing, especially since we only had four players and we had to use all four scores.”
Normally you have five players, and score the four best scores.
“We definitely had our backs up against the wall,” Deitz said.
Junior Bella Orr was the lone Badger girl competing, shooting a respectable 118, which put her in a tie for ninth individually.
“Bella played great, she has had a very busy spring with Cheer State and Junior Miss,” Deitz said. “It was great to have her score well at the end.”
Kellogg’s boys and girls teams both placed first at the tournament. Kellogg boys shot a team total 327, and the lady Wildcats shot a 418.
Next week’s state event, also at the Links, runs Monday and Tuesday.
