Woody Watts, a friend to baseball, kids

| November 10, 2010 6:55 AM

I missed attending Woody Watts’ funeral by four hours. It really bothered me not to be there for his wife and boys.

Woody, Jack Rupley, Tom Clairmont, Leonard Schulte, Dick Staples and myself spent many hours together in baseball. Woody helped build three baseball fields and he coached many kids.

I can’t begin to tell you how much Woody loved the game, but how much he loved the kids. It’s not often you can find someone that really knew the game of baseball, but was willing to put in unlimited hours and actually cared more about the game than just winning.

We talked years after those years together and reminisced about how great a time we had together.

There were many kids who benefited from being coached by Woody. He made a great impact while he was on this Earth. I for one am wishing him the best in his new journey.
