| November 24, 2010 7:48 AM

The Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society is excited to announce the completion of the first “Flora” (a comprehensive list of vascular plants) of Bonner and Boundary counties.

This valuable checklist can be found on our website. Go to www.NativePlantSociety.org  scroll down the left side and click on the link for: Checklist of Vascular Plants of Bonner and Boundary Counties, Idaho.

Anyone interested in the native plants of our region will find this list a great resource.

This comprehensive flora of vascular plants of Bonner and Boundary counties was compiled over the last 40 years by botanist Marian Fuller, PhD and Professor Emeritus, Murray State University, Murray, Ky.

This list has updated scientific names as well as common names. In addition, the extensive index includes older names found in the Flora of the Pacific Northwest for cross reference.

To hear more about the flora, plan on attending the Nov. 27, Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society presentation, co-sponsored by the city of Sandpoint Park and Recreation Department. This program will feature Jennifer Costich-Thompson botanist for the North (Kaniksu) Zone - Idaho Panhandle National Forests.

She will speak about "Results of 2010 Botanical Surveys & Monitoring." This event begins at 9:45am in the Sandpoint Community Hall and is open to the public, free of charge.

The Mission of the Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society is:

·to foster an understanding and appreciation of native flora and its habitats in the panhandle area of North Idaho,

·to advocate the conservation of this rich natural heritage for future generations,

·to encourage the responsible use of native plants in landscaping and restoration,

·to educate youth and the general public in the value of the native flora and their habitats.
