Man charged with domestic violence spared prison with plea deal

A 24 year-old Post Falls man initially charged with felony domestic violence at a residence on Eileen Road was spared prison time in a plea deal that reduced the charge to a misdemeanor.

Aaron D. Harris was arrested at about 1:48 a.m. May 9 after slamming his roommate Jada Baker's head into a parked car, knocking her unconscious, and then hitting Scott Bunkelman, who was attempting to intercede, with a beer bottle in the back of the head as they wrestled, sending Bunkelman to the hospital, and earning Harris a charge of battery.

Harris was also charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia; those charges were later dismissed.

He pled guilty to the reduced charge and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 168 days suspended and credit for 12 days served. He was ordered to pay a $122.50 fine and $177.50 court costs, and placed on two years probation. On the battery charge, he was ordered to pay a $152.50 fine and $147.50 court costs, and given the same jail time and probation.
