Everhart says he has answers to job issue

| October 28, 2010 9:00 PM

Last week’s Herald included Commissioner Kirby’s comments.  They followed my previous article offering leadership to bring opposing viewpoints to the table to revitalize the timber industry.

The two approaches offer a stark contrast. Kirby’s view is negative and he offers no solutions to gridlock and lost jobs. That is not surprising because he said at the candidates Forum that “leadership is a nebulous thing”. In contrast, my view is positive, action-oriented, and offers a way to create over 100 jobs.

As someone who promotes creative compromise, I receive potshots from both loggers and environmentalists. Yet my campaign supporters reflect a wide diversity of opinions, demonstrating the truth that I listen to everyone. For Kirby to say that I am aligned with environmental groups is nonsensical. My father started and managed Everhart Logging, and my brother and two nephews continue responsible logging on a very reduced scale. As part of a logging family, I understand the need for sustainable timber jobs.

The contrasting views of Kirby and Everhart therefore give voters a definite choice on Nov. 2.  And I am confident that you will vote for a leader and problem solver.
