The Bonners Ferry High School boys soccer team earned a trip to the state tourney last season. The Badgers who were District 1 champions are looking forward to another successful year.

“We expect to do well in league again,” said head coach Ed Moe. “We recently played bigger non-league teams at Moscow and Coeur d’ Alene just to make ourselves better.”

The league season begins today at St. Maries, and another game on Saturday at home with Orofino.

“We will see how good we are after we play these two teams and what we need to work on,” Moe said.

The team has a good core of returning seniors according to Moe, with some inexperienced newcomers but only lost three seniors from last season.  There are four starting seniors, five juniors and two sophomores.

The BFHS boys soccer team are used to being favorites most years in the league season and work really hard to better themselves for districts and state.

The Badgers came up short at the 3A State Tournament in Caldwell last season falling in the first round to Teton 1 – 0, then dropping a 2 – 1 decision to Bliss in the loser-out bracket.

“We are looking pretty good in practices and is too early to gage how well we will do, we will know more after we play our base competition,” said Moe.

Districts will be held Oct. 13 and 14 and the times and place will be announced at a later date.  The State Tournament will be Oct. 21 through 23, in Idaho Falls.
