Theft of a young man's motorcycle cruel

| September 9, 2010 9:00 PM

I've lived in Bonners Ferry for better than 20 years of my life, most being childhood and high school years.

I find myself angered because of an occurrence that happened about a week ago at the mini storage south of town.

It has to do with my step-son, Aaron Smith. Aaron is a young man who is a small person physically, but if you know him, he does everything with all his heart. He's a very giving and understanding young person. Last week the one thing he put all his heart into was taken away from him.

His passion is motorcycle racing, and both his motorcycles, one being a 2010 Kawasaki he hasn't made the first payment on and the other a 2008 he just paid off, were stolen from him and his father, Cory Smith, along with other valuables.

Aaron,15, is a very hard-working young man who pays his own truck and motorcycle bills so as not to burden his parents in these hard times, and he understands the values of working hard for what you want. He isn't always given everything. He has invested his time and his money, all taken from him by people who have no respect for people's property. In my book, that makes you a thief.

There is a simple rule that seems to be forgotten, “thou shalt not steal from thy neighbor.”

What is wrong with people in today's world? Shame on anybody in this community if they had any part in this.

I hope whomever is responsible reads this and know they have shattered a boys' dreams of being good at something he loves with all his heart. It's hard enough for young people this day and age to find something they can value for a lifetime. What happened to people's morals and life's values?

What is our wrong with our world and the people who live in it?
