Contested races

Contested state races this election year include one U.S. Senate seat, with Randy Bergquist (C), Mike Crapo (R), and P. Tom Sullivan (D), running, and one seat for the First District in the U.S. Congress, with Raul Labrador (R), Walt Minnick (D), Dave Olson (I), and Mike Washburn (L), seeking the seat.

For Idaho Governor, incumbent Butch Otter (R) is being challenged by Keith Allred (D), Ted Dunlap (L), Jana Kemp (I) and Pro-Life, or the person formerly known as Marvin Richardson (I). Running for Lieutenant Governor are Brad Little (R), Paul Venable (C) and Edon Wallace (D).

Seeking the office of secretary of state are Mack Sermon (D) and Ben Ysursa (R), and running for superintendent of public instruction are Tom Luna (R) and Stan Olson (D).

None of the local candidates for state office, including Senator Shawn Keough and Representatives Eric Anderson and George Eskridge, are facing opposition.

In local challenged races, Commissioner Walt Kirby (R) is being challenged by Orrin Everhart (D) and John L. White (I), and Commissioner Dan Dinning (R) is facing Michael Richardson (I). Assessor Dave Ryals is being challenged by Jeffrey Stankiewicz (C).

Running unopposed for local offices are county clerk Glenda Poston, treasurer Jenny Fessler and coroner Mick Mellet.

In addition, voters will be called upon to decide whether or not to retain magistrate judge Justin Julian.

Also on this years ballot are four Constitutional amendments; SJR 101 to allow the University of Idaho Board of Regents to impose rates of tuition and fees on all students at that school; HJR 5, to provide for the issuance of revenue and special facility bonds by political subdivisions of the state; HJR 4, to authorize public hospitals to incur indebtedness or liability to purchase, contract, lease or build facilities, equipment and technology; and HJR 7, to allow any city owning a municipal electric system, which includes Bonners Ferry, to issue revenue bonds by majority vote to acquire, construct, install and equip electric generating, transmission and distribution facilities and to incur indebtedness or liability under agreements to purchase, share, exchange or transmit wholesale electricity for its customers, to be paid for by rates, charges or revenues.
