Girls soccer team defeats Priest River 2 to 1
The girls varsity soccer team defeated the Priest River Spartans Thursday 2 to 1.
The Spartans scored from a scrum at the 5-minute mark. Liz Racer created a Badger tie at the 14-minute mark with a well placed high left shot into the Spartan’s goal.
Several additional shots on goal by the Lady Badgers seemed to elevate the home team thirst for more goals. Racer scored the Badgers second goal at the 61 minute mark.
“This years Badgers team is a building year focus,” said coach John Lindberg. “The team has one returning senior Samantha Robertson, however the first-year starters Anika Blackmore, Joselyn Palacios and Sydney Hubbard are on the fast track of experience.”
Lindberg said Natasha Litterell, Hailey Pruitt, Mariah Harris, and Hailey Beazer each demonstrated just what a varsity program demands. Racer, Sarah Schuman, Rachel Wilson and Robertson continue to show their leadership by example.
In the girls’ Sept. 2 game against St. Maries Bonners Ferry earned its first seasonal tie.
Earning the 0 to 0 tie was due to the Badger’s second half defensive effort led by Hubbard, Blackmore, and Palacios. This trio is placing their individual marks game by game.
The Lady Badgers next game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, in Priest River, then the girls play at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, in Libby.
