Volleyball team drops matches to St. Maries

Lady Badgers struggling but getting better

The Bonners Ferry Lady Badgers had trouble with their passing game against St. Maries, the returning state champs, falling 7-25, 16-25, 16-25.

Markayle Acord had three blocks and four kills, Olivia Langs came in with seven digs, Miranda Stippich served up three aces and Ivy Dirks contributed nine assists.

The Badgers faced bigger schools at the Lakeland Tournament, and while they didn't come away with any wins, they did come away with a lot of valuable experience, according to coach Janice Tucker.

They opened against Pullman, who went on to win the 21-team tourney, Acord was unable to play in the first two games, but JV Jailee Foster stepped up and played a great game, along with Langs.

Dirks served up two aces and five assists as the Badgers took on Lake City, falling 14-25, 23-25. Langs came in with six digs, Mattea Bertling got in two blocks and Ally Merrifield had four kills.

Merrifield also served three aces against Lakeland, and the Badgers took the bout to three matches, but fell 22-25, 25-21, 9-15. Langs contributed eight digs and Acord had two blocks and 10 kills.

The Badgers fell to Las Vegas 16-25, 15-25, and to Clarkston.
