Benny Watt is the first of the University of Great Falls, Mont., class of 2011 to sign a letter of intent with the Argos wrestling team.

Watt just started his senior year at Bonners Ferry High School. The Argos won third place at nationals last year —the best finish in history for the school.

Watt will go to UGF after a remarkable wrestling career at BFHS.  He has been a three- time placer at the Idaho state wrestling championships.

Watt’s best finish came last year where he was the state runner-up. He is a three-time district and regional champion as well as a multi-time freestyle and greco-roman state champion.

He also played soccer and lacrosse for two years and received defensive player of the year award for lacrosse. He also will be entering his second season of cross country this year.

“Benny is exactly what we are looking for in a student athlete at University of Great Falls,” said Schaeffer. “He is a multi-sport athlete and is very dedicated to excelling in every aspect of his academics and athletics. We are very excited that he has chosen UGF to continue his wrestling career and we looking for great things from him in the following years.”

“I chose to wrestle for UGF because I am comfortable with the coach, the area, as well as the feel of the campus,” Benny said.

“I have known Coach Schaeffer for a couple of years and it is important to me to feel comfortable with my coaching staff.  I have wanted to go to UGF since I entered high school because I know it is a good program and I will become a better wrestler.”
