People walking and driving near Baxter Street in a quiet Bonners Ferry neighborhood may have noticed the nostalgic Model A’s lined up along the property of Ted Crabb.
Crabb, 88, retired in 1983 and since has been collecting and restoring the classic vehicles made from 1928 through 1931.
The and a 17-year resident of Bonners Ferry restores the classic cars on his own. His latest project is a 1931 Model A pick up.
“It can take up to two or three years to finish restoring these vehicles,” Crabb said.
Crabb said it can be difficult, costly and take time to find the correct parts in order to restore the antiques cars.
Crabb does all the engine and body work and leaves the painting up to someone else. He has never put any of his Model A’s up for sale but he has sold several to people who saw them and made an offer.
“I have also given six cars away to my kids who live out of town,” said Crabb.
Crabb has five Model A’s now and four are finished and they can be seen when drivng along Baxter Street.
Crabb, originally from Orofino, lived and worked in Sandpoint before moving to Bonners Ferry with his late wife of 27 years, Nancy.
Crabb said his wife was happy that he enjoyed such a unique hobby.
