Harvest Foods opens in Bonners
After much anticipation on Wednesday Harvest Foods had a soft opening of the new grocery store located in the old Safeway building in downtown Bonners Ferry.
Owner John Akins is happy to announce that they hired all local people and used almost all local contractors to do the construction and remodel inside the store.
“My son Nick is the only one who wasn’t hired locally but he has moved here and will manage the store,” Akins said.
The store is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. 7 days a week.
They provide customers with a full meat department which will include Angus and choice meats. The store offers a large, fresh produce department. Akins said it will also carry locally grown produce when it is in season.
Harvest Foods provides good quality products and service, at a good value, he said.
The store is aesthetically pleasing with an open feel and familiar faces.
Akins made arrangements with the Boundary County Museum to obtain historical photos of Boundary County to add nostalgia to the store’s decor. Akins had the images reproduced and put on large panels and displayed them throughout the store.
“We are so grateful for his contribution to the community and grateful that he (Akins) invested in displaying the history of our town inside the store,” said Boundary County Historical Society President Gini Woodward.
