Bonners LaCrosse wins first league game
The Bonners Ferry Warriors Lacrosse Club played the Sandpoint Bulldogs on Monday night taking a 5-3 victory in a close contest.
In the first quarter the Warriors spent a third of the quarter in the penalty box, and the Bulldogs took advantage of the situation getting an early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 2-0 in the second quarter before Zach Wilson scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 2-1. The bulldogs added another goal before the end of the second quarter to extend the lead to 3-1.
The third quarter was a hard fought contest with back and forth action. Tight defenses at both ends of the field kept the scoring opportunities to a minimum. However, the Warriors prevailed with Mitch Carroll finding Colin MacDonald for a quick goal and Josh Miller assisting on a goal scored by Stephen Bachmann. The score at the end of the third quarter was all knotted up at three goals.
The fourth quarter was just as exciting with end to end action and several good saves made by each goalie. The Warriors were the only ones to put the ball in the back of the net.
Bryan Murphy, who left the field after sustaining a heavy hit in the third quarter, returned in the fourth quarter to scored the final two goals for the Warriors. When the final horn sounded the score was 5-3 in favor of the Warriors.
Coaches Niewieroski and Glaza had high praise for the defense, goalie Wesley Kriener, and defensemen Kyle Mullin, Morris McAllister, Clayton Wang, and Shane Hefferman, who shut out the Bulldogs in the second half of the game. In addition, the middies, Stephen Bachman, Alex Caponi, Mitche Carroll, Josh Miller, Zach Wilson, Joel Fields, and Tyler Childers were also instrumental in shutting down the Bulldog’s offense.
The next home game is at 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, against Coeur d’Alene High School at Bondary County Fairgrounds.
