Hockey team places first in spring tournament

The 2000 Kootenay Avalanche hockey team are back to back champions after defeating all challengers in the first spring tourney of the year.

Round robin action saw them defeat Kelowna Heat 4-3, 2K Chiefs 7-1 and Northern Selects 7-0.

In the semi’s, a strong team game saw them defeat Okanagan Lakers 6-0. Onto the finals against their rival, the host Kamloops Ice Pirates.

 A great start led to a 5-2 win for the Kootenay team. Big hits, equal scoring, and teamwork define this team.

Kootenai Tribal member James Porter, Jr. is a goal tender for the Kootenay Avalanche. Porter is a fifth grader at Valley View Elementary School.
