Pauline (Polly) T. Sorensen

| April 21, 2011 9:10 AM

Pauline (Polly) T. Sorensen was born on July 23, 1930, in an alley in Springfield, Ohio to Raymond Thurell and Flora Marie (Organ) Gray.

She came to passing on this day April 13, 2011, after a year long battle with cancer. She fought it long and hard until her last few days.

When Polly was raised in Springfield, Ohio, it was also during the Depression.

She said it made you tough and only the tough survived. She said that you went without, "if you didn't have it, you didn't need it."

Polly worked as a waitress for many years before retiring to Bonners Ferry with her husband Swede in April 1980.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, crocheting, playing pinochle and baking. The cookie jar was always full of fresh baked peanut butter cookies to have with hot coffee.

She was also known for her dilly bread, every neighbor got a fresh loaf just out of the oven. There was a "totty" for the neighbors in the evening when they stopped by.

She cherished the time she spent with friends, family and especially her grandchildren. She was a proud member of the Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge and a local Monday card club.

Survivors are Dennis (Robin) Sorensen of Grants Pass, Ore.; Jerry (Gayle) Sorensen of Selma, Ore.; Steve (Mary) Nestell of Reno, N.Y.; Susan Nearing of Bonners Ferry, Toni Perry of Hanford, Calif.; Dale Sorensen of Bonners Ferry and a special daughter Valerie Sorensen also of Bonners Ferry.

Surviving sisters are Betty Wendling of Chicago, Kathy (Ron) Zilke of Kentucky and Gretta (Don) Huffer of Maryland; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry (Swede) Sorensen, son Donald E. Sorensen, brothers and sisters Chucky Gray, Ruth Bame, Raymond Gray and Carol Wendling.
