Eugene D. Barber

Eugene D. Barber passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at the Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.  

Interment will be held at the Grandview Cemetery on April 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. with full military rites.

Gene was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Bonners Ferry to Dell and Grace Leslie Barber. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1949. He worked in the Sunshine Mine in Kellogg, Idaho, for a short time and then enlisted in the Air Force the same year.

Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sportsman. He also shot competitively and placed 11th in the nation.

He purchased the O.K. Tire Store from his father in the late 1950’s and continued to operate it until his retirement in September 2000. He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Moyie Shrine Club for more than 50 years. Gene was also a charter member of the Bonners Ferry Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two former wives. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, one sister, Eva Daniels of Salt Like City; one son, David of Los Angeles; one daughter, Lorrie of Spokane; cousins, Ruth Ann Wilson and Pat Miles of Bonners Ferry.

He is also survived by three nieces and their families and his long time friends Art Linnemeyer, Dave Winey, Cliff Kramer and other friends too numerous to name.

Donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
