All Star baseball team plays in two tournaments

The Bonners Ferry 9 and 10 year old All-Star team played tournament games on the weekends of July 1 and July 8 in Coeur d’Alene, finishing two and two.

They played a tough Lewiston team in the first game and came away with a 9-5 win.

Superb pitching by Jared Fess, Seamus Skeen and Seth Bateman was complimented by timely hitting by Bonners Ferry. Contributing hits were Fess, Seth Bateman and Skeen as well as James Leach, Ty Bateman and Dawson Thomas.

Adding RBI’s were Donovan Varelman, Derek Lopez, Leach, Fess, Skeen and Seth Bateman.

In the second game they battled a formidable Post Falls team scratching out three runs but falling short 14 to 3.  Ty Bateman , Skeen and Fess all  hit.

On Sunday they came out to play the strongest team in the field, the Coeur d’Alene Black team, and were beaten badly (CDL Black outscored their opponents 106 to 1 in four games and went on to win the Idaho title).

The following Saturday we played our final game against Coeur d’Alene Grey and bounced backed strongly with a dominating win 9 to 1.

Skeen gave up one hit over five innings while Seth Bateman came in a pitched a perfect sixth inning.

Knocking in hits were Lopez, Varelman, Seth Bateman, Fess, Ty Bateman, Skeen and Leach. Adding RBI’s were Ryan Corbeil, Kasch Whitmore, Braden Hershberger and Ben Tompkins as well as Ty Bateman, Thomas, Lopez, Varelman and Fess.

These boys practiced almost every day for  two  weeks before the tournament and it showed as they played well as team.
