Running team takes third at Jacey's Race
A group of ladies from Bonners Ferry and who work out at Iron Mike’s get together to run races in northern Idaho as often as they can.
The most recent race they participated in as a group was Jacey’s Race, a 5k run for all ages, held in Sandpoint on July 10.
“We did pretty good at this one, taking third place, and we have been running marathons together whenever there is one,” said Donna Strangio, personal trainer at Iron Mike’s Gym.
The races this group enters are usually 5k in length. Strangio said they were excited to hear they took third place and thought it was pretty good for the small group of ladies.
Jacey's Race started in 2001 in order to benefit Jacey Lawson, then a 4-year-old girl with stage 4 Wilm's cancer. Following lung and kidney surgery, radiation, and 1 year of chemotherapy. Jacey is happy, healthy and living in Sandpoint.
Through sponsorship and race entry fees, money raised helps local families with children with cancer or life threatening illness with gifts to Community Cancer Services, the Sandpoint Chapter of Wishing Star and the Pediatric Department at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint.
