Who will wear the antlers?

Moose Madness is back and will be hosted by the Bulldogs at Sandpoint High School this year.

This is the fourth year running for the annual spirit competition and community service project.

The trophy of moose antlers still belongs to the Badgers, who have held it for three years in a row. 

It all begins for the girls varsity at 6 p.m., and boys varsity at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 16, at Sandpoint High School.

There will be performances by dance teams, bands and cheerleaders before both games and at half-time of the games.

During the week of the event Bonners Ferry High School students and faculty will start their spirit-filled quest for the moose antlers by dressing up in different themes each day.

The schools are  judged on cheer competition, dance team competition, stomp routines, mascot competition, moose drawing, band competition, choir sports anthem and the all so famous moose call.

During the games sportsmanship is also  judged. The judges will look at fans, players, band and cheerleaders alike.

The two schools can earn points for posters with school colors and the intensity of the cheering.

The reason the schools and fans do this is for the all important fund raising part of the competition.

For two weeks each school starts raising fund for a local charity of their choice. The goal is to see which school can raise the most money.

The Badgers chose Care-n-Share this year as its recipient. The program is for local kids whose parents need a little help getting gifts at Christmas. 

The Moose Madness winner will be announced at the end of the boys’ game.

Tickets can be purchased at during school hours, Monday,  Dec. 12, for $5 each. The 2011 Moose Madness teeshirts also are available for $8. 

 Children under four-years of age and senior citizens (age 62 and older) will be admitted free but will still require a ticket.

Remember everyone has to have a ticket to get in to the event. Tickets go fast.
