The Bonners Ferry women’s varsity basketball team came Tuesday night to celebrate their seniors, but they also came hungry for a victory. The Badgers ended up honoring the seniors with a 46-28 drubbing of St. Maries.

Seniors Amy Andrews, Chelsea Taggart and Markayle Acord where sent off with a rousing round of applause, but one of them decided that was not enough for her last home game.

The Badgers jumped out to a 7-0 lead but soon found some rebounding and transition problems, which allowed St. Maries to close the gap. Bonners Ferry senior post Markayle Acord stepped forward to set the tone for the Badger victory. Acord led the team with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and 0 turnovers for the night.

Women’s varsity head coach Travis Hinthorn felt like the team played well and with a great amount of intensity against St. Maries. Hinthorn went on to say “We had some good looks at the basket tonight. Sometimes we get a little streaky on offensive and stop rebounding, but we recovered from that tonight fairly quickly.”

The Badger men and women’s varsity next face Priest River this Thursday night at home.
