PRIEST RIVER — The visiting Badgers started slow but wouldn’t back down from the top ranked Spartans Tuesday night, digging an early 13-4 deficit in the first quarter before coming back to keep the game tight on the way to an eventual 69-55 loss.

Priest River (14-5, 6-1 IML) celebrated senior night by spreading the ball behind the 12 assists of Eric Holbrook, who set-up fellow senior Max Salesky for a game-high 28 points.

Mikey Bach recorded a double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans, who travel to Kellogg (14-4, 5-2 IML) on Saturday.

After the sluggish start Bonners Ferry (3-13, 2-5 IML) bounced back with a 21-17 second quarter behind senior guard Alex Mendez, who scored five of his nine points in the period and brought the Badgers within five points at the break.

Mendez would also record a team-high eight rebounds.

Two straight Andre Zarate three pointers to start the fourth quarter allowed Bonners Ferry to come within seven points, 52-45, but the host Spartans would seal the game with a spread offense and solid free throw shooting down the stretch.

Zarate scored a team-high 15 points, Alex Awbrey added 12 and Aaron Moe scored eight to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Badgers close-out the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 19, hosting St. Maries (15-4, 5-2 IML) at 3:30 p.m.
