Ann Santoro

Ann Santoro died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at her home in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

She was born on March 12, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., daughter of Vendelin and Sophie Bielak. She married Joseph Santoro on April 3, 1947, in Chicago. Joseph preceded her in death on July 25, 1985.

She is survived by her three children, Warren Santoro and his former wife Francine (Schissel) Santoro of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Richard Santoro and his wife Joanne (Cook) Santoro of Chicago and by Sue (Santoro) Tomlin and her husband Bob Tomlin of Mt. Vernon.

Also surviving Mrs. Santoro are her three grandchildren and their families: Jessamyn (Santoro) Brown of Chicago, Joseph Santoro, his wife Lindsay (Craft) Santoro and their soon-to-arrive son, all of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Jeremy Santoro of Boise, Idaho.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Santoro was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings Mary (Bielak) Lukazik, Ginger Bielak, Tony Bielak and one infant brother.

Mrs. Santoro worked as a homemaker as well as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Greentree Red Hat Society and of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.

She called several places home during her long life, including Detroit, Mich.; Chicago; Sun City West, Ariz.; and Mt. Vernon.

At Mrs. Santoro’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. If desired, memorials can be made to the Rend Lake College Foundation to fund student scholarships or the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.Vernon, Ill., 62864.

Ann Santoro will be remembered by all for her wit, her intelligence, and her unfailing positive attitude. She will be missed.
