Badgers grapplers first in tourney

The Bonners Ferry Badger wrestling team on Saturday brought home a first place trophy from the Riverside Classic Tournament in Washington.

The Badgers competed and won against seven teams. Bonners Ferry had a total of 219 points, then Riverside has 205, Rogers had 181, Chewelah had 105, Kettle Falls had 80, Selkirk 56 points and Liberty had 20 points.

Bonners Ferry had 8 wrestlers in the championship round and came home with 5 championships.

Winners for the Badgers were Josh Turner in the 105 pound class, Blaine Invernon in the 119 pound class, Benny Watt at 140 pounds, Trevor Hampton in the 145 pound class and Carmen Kritchbalm in the 189 pound class.

Bonners Ferry took 18 wrestlers into the tournament and 16 brought home medals or placed.

The Badgers wrestling team will meet at the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula Friday, Jan. 14 and Saturday, Jan. 15, time will be announced.
