The Bonners Ferry men’s varsity basketball fought a good fight, but still ended up loosing Monday night’s non-league game to Lake City’s JV squad 37-47.

The Badgers fought their way to a 4-4 tie at the end of the first period, but then found themselves outscored by seven points in the second period. Badger men’s varsity coach Clint Arthur said “We started off slow offensively. Even though we had some good looks, the shots didn’t fall.” Arthur went on to say, “In the second quarter, we played lethargic and let them build a lead because we didn’t play aggressively.”

Bonners Ferry chipped away at the Lake City lead in the third but could not hold the momentum in the fourth posting a 37-47 loss.  Arthur noted that, “ In the third quarter we looked much more active, going on a run in the fourth that tied the game at 36, but we gave up a wide open three and just could not make a shot.”

The Badgers were led offensively by Alek Lopez with 11 points, Josiah Owinyo with 7, Justin Everhart with 6, Alex Awbrey with 5, Aaron Moe with 4 and Zane Peycke and Mat Evans each had 2 points.

The Badger men and women’s varsity next face Priest River this Thursday night at home.
