On a damp winter day a warm welcome home was given to 10-year-old Andrew McCoy.

Andrew returned home after spending nearly two months at Sacred Heart Medical Center as a result of injuries he endured in an automobile accident on Thanksgiving Day.

Anyone driving through town Friday could see the reader boards and signs businesses posted stating, “Welcome Home Andrew.”

On  website set up for Andrew, his father Sean McCoy said that the smile couldn’t be taken off Andrew’s face especially with the homecoming he had.

“I lost count of how many signs that were up that said “ Welcome Home Andrew,” McCoy said. “ I have to admit that I shed some tears when I saw them and was touched deeply.  Bonners Ferry is full of loving and caring people.”

McCoy said they stopped at every sign  and that Andrew thought it was really cool that the businesses did that for him.

McCoy said the family is up for the challenge ahead in getting Andrew prepared to go back to school and life in general. He said that Andrew makes improvements every day and has a great sense of humor as he takes each day as a challenge.

Andrew will be visiting school soon and hopefully returning on a part time basis within a week, according to his father.

“He walks pretty good and Mike Davis at Iron Mike’s has even given him a membership so I take him to the gym with me and he gets Dad physical therapy as well,” said McCoy.

Andrew suffered head trauma and because of his age and resiliency he has been improving daily , things like jumping prove to more difficult but he is making strides daily, according to his father.

“We just need to get past some of these physical hurdles,” McCoy said. “He is pretty close to getting back to normal but it will take a long time yet to get there.”
