Bonners Ferry continues to prove that talent can derive from small towns.

Talienna Darrow, a high school junior as been selected to represent the United States of America at the World Championships of Performing Arts.

The high school junior attends Sandpoint Charter School and is the daughter of Laurie and David Darrow of Bonners Ferry.

Tali (as she is known by friends and family) said the competition is also known as the Talent Olympics.

Tali said she has been a performer all her life beginning when she was just two weeks old playing the baby Jesus in a Christmas production at her church.

She has participated in many talent shows over the years, however that acting is her passion. She  has acted  productions with the Missoula Children’s Theater and the Bonners Ferry Youth Theater.

She has performed in three film or television projects and 8 theater productions. She also has performed in live performances at Scareywood at Silverwood Theme Park, New Life Church, NOVA showcasing and Boundary County’s Got Talent.

“I am a committed Christian, and I believe my talent comes from God,” said Tali.  “My career is dedicated to honoring God, and my success will be granted by God.”

The WCOPA is in its 15th year and is held in Hollywood, Calif.

The contestants come from the United States as well as 50 other countries to compete for the ‘gold medal’ in singing, modeling, dancing, acting, instrumentalists and variety. Agents, managers, producers, casting directors and record label reps are present to judge the competition.

According to WCOPA President Griff O’Neil when funds are slashed from school budgets, the first to go are bands, choirs, music and drama programs. This is the first venue for performing artists to come along and now it is worldwide with over 50,000 applicants vying for an invitation to attend.

Contestants are screened, qualified and invited through a selection process to represent the country.  The competition opens many opportunities for these young performance artists including $50,000 in scholarship funds.

This is a incredible opportunity for Tali and she hopes to have community support.  The contest will be held July 13 through the 24.  If you would like to help Tali with registration, preparation and travel expenses please call Tali Darrow at 610-6671.
