He was stationed in Nebraska as a clerk-typist, but he yearned for a little “more challenging job.”

He volunteered for a new position with the just formed Army Air-Corps. He became a radio-gunner man in a B-29 flying bombing missions over Japan off the island of Tinian.

He was shot down twice in the Pacific Ocean (once floating in a life raft for three days and nights). He survived to watch the Enola Gay loaded with the first atomic bomb on that fateful mission.

After the war, he came west to live with his parents; Clyde and Lillie Sheck on the Westside above the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge for awhile.

He became employed with the Great Northern Railway, working in Parkwater, Wash., and Havre, Mont.

Finally settling in Browning, Mont., he met and married Isabelle McKay. Theyhad three sons. After 11 years of marriage, Isabelle passed away and he married Wynona R. Hamilton. They were married for 50 years.

After leaving Browning, Mont., he worked a short time for Seattle City Bus Lines, driving downtown bus routes. He also worked at Boeing Airfield for about on year.

He became employed with the US Postal Service working in Moses Lake, Wash., St Maries, Idaho, and finally as postmaster of the Naples, Idaho, post office.

Retiring from the Naples post office, he and Wynona enjoyed traveling to Arizona and Mexico in the winters, and fishing at Kookanuska in the summers. He always enjoyed people and would help them whenever he could.
