Talk to your kids about harm from parties

| July 7, 2011 8:29 AM

It is spring and as the weather gets warmer our county’s high school aged students will be planning outdoor parties where illegal drinking often occurs.

These organized parties have sometimes been responsible for violent acts towards teenagers.

They also create safety concerns for the entire community when these participants drive home while intoxicated.

Young adolescent girls are particularly at risk and most vulnerable at these parties but there have also been documented fights and beatings between teenage boys and young adult men.

Young adults have also provided underage partygoers with alcohol.

The task force encourages parents to talk with their teenager about attending this type o party.  Remind your child that their well-being is at risk.

Contact law enforcement if you know that such a party is going to tale place as their involvement could prevent illegal or violent activities.
