Volunteers plan to SWISH

Swish is the region's biggest three-on-three basketball tournament behind Spokane's Hoop Fest.

This is the fourth year for Bonners Ferry Swish and each year the popularity of the event has grown.

Last year the event drew more than 300 players  and 1,000 spectators from around the region.

This year the event takes place beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17 on Main Street in downtown Bonners Ferry.

Seth Franco of the Harlem Globe Trotters will perform during SWISH, and there will be music, food, entertainment and fun for all. 

Players can pick up their T-shirts and team packages between 4 and 8 p.m., Friday, July 15 at the back doors of the Bonners Ferry Museum.

Volunteers are requested to attend a short training session on monitoring and score keeping at 5 p.m., Friday July, 15 in the museum event room.  Dinner also will be served to volunteers and they can pick up their T-shirts at this time as well.

Anyone who wished to volunteer and help set up from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday July 15 are invited. Youth ages 15 and under are also welcome to help.

 One Swish’s goals is provide local kids with things to do and provide safe places within the county for them to play. 

Bonners Ferry SWISH and Rotary Club donated six new basketball hoops and nets to Valley View Elementary School in May.

The year prior they installed three heavy duty basketball hoops on the slab at Boundary County Fairgrounds.  The money raised during the first SWISH event  paid for the fairground’s hoops.

“The Rotary Club is looking forward to making additional donations from the SWISH event,” said  Sukenik.
