No new details on traffic stop death

BONNERS FERRY —The Idaho State Police is still investigating the death of Daniel Mittlestadt of Mount Shasta, Calif.,  who died during an attempted arrest  by a Boundary County Sheriff’s deputy.

The incident took place on May 16 north of Bonners Ferry.

A sheriff’s deputy responded and made initial contact with the subject.  While he was being taken into custody, the man he appeared to have an unknown medical event. 

The deputy called for an ambulance and the man was transported to Boundary Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There are unconfirmed reports that a Tazer was involved in the incident. 

On July 22, after receiving a public information request from the Herald, the BCSO said the ISP was still reviewing the medical report and autopsy of the deceased.

The BCSO asked for additional time to give more details.

On July 26, the ISP also responded to a public records request and asked for 10 working days to provide an appropriate response the the Herald’s request.
