Maurice (Morris) Lee Brakeman

Maurice (Morris) Lee Brakeman, who was born Aug. 16, 1942 in Antioch, California to Everett Oliver and Leigh Shirley Petty Brakeman, died June 28, 2011, at 68 years old in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Fiest Creek on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 4 p.m.

Morris’s family spent most of his childhood living in Gordon, Neb., where his father opened a radio repair shop after returning from WWII.  

Morris graduated from Gordon High School in 1960. At a time where many young men were avoiding the draft, Morris enlisted in the Army in March 1961.

He served several tours of duty overseas including, Vietnam, Thailand, Panama, and Germany. He served his country faithfully for more than 20 years and retired as a Master Sergeant.  

He continued traveling around the world working at a variety of jobs before settling in northern Idaho in the spring of 2007. Morris loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and is especially remembered for his story telling. He was a good friend to many, and a loving father, with a great sense of humor.

Morris is survived by four children: Traci (David) Jones, Erik (Audrey) Brakeman, Tanya Brakeman, and Matthew (Jennifer) Brakeman; 13 grandchildren: Parker Jones, Autumn Jones, Morgan Brakeman, Jaida Glessner, Caleb Jones, Sierra Glessner, Aurora Jones, Ashley Brakeman, Robyn Glessner, Carly Glessner, Tanner Jones, Aurelia Jones, and Ben Brock; a brother: Errol (Joan) Brakeman; a niece, Shelley (Mick) Dragoo; and a nephew, Jonathon (Sonja) Brakeman.
