Dave Carpenter director of the Summer Youth Theater program said the show must go on.

Unsure of what summer theater would become if the  supplemental levy did not pass, Carpenter is happy to announce the first theater musical production “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The characters have been cast and the show will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 and  6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7.

A second round of performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13., all in Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School.

“Little Shop of Horrors” is a rock musical about a simpleton florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood.

The musical was also made into a 1986 film of the same name, directed by Frank Oz.

Carpenter director of the theater productions, choir and drama teacher also announces that auditions for the musical production of “Oliver” will start  at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, in Becker Auditorium.

“I would like to see as many kids as possible come and try out for this production,” Carpenter said.

“Oliver” will be a joint venture combining kids from age five to high school age.

The musical opens in the workhouse, as the half-starved orphan boys are entering the enormous lunchroom for dinner and perform the infamous “Food Glorious Food.”

They are fed only gruel. Nine-year-old Oliver gathers up the courage to ask for more. He is immediately apprehended and is told to gather his belongings by Mr. Bumble and the Widow Corney, the heartless and greedy caretakers of the workhouse.

Carpenter is very excited about the possibilities in the amount of children he will be able to cast for this production.
