Badgers place second at state
The Bonners Ferry High School wrestling came home with the State 3A wrestling second place trophy after competing at state in Nampa over the weekend.
Sixteen wrestlers went to state with Coach Conrad Garner bringing home eight medals along with the second place trophy.
“An outstanding effort by all wrestlers to receive the team trophy,” said Coach Conrad Garner.
Benny Watt at 140 pounds came in 1st place, pinning his first three opponents and won by decision in the finals.
Trevor Hampton at 145 pounds also took 1st for his weight class with four decisions
At 130 pounds Dustin Koehler took 3rd and Brandon Schmitz took 4th in his 152 pound weight class.
Reid Boorman took 6th place at 130 pounds for Bonners Ferry, Zach Heigel at 171 pounds took 6th, and Blaine Invernon in the 119 pound weight class took 2nd. The lightest of the team Josh Tucker took 3rd in the 103 pound weight class.
Garner said the wrestlers had a great trip to Nampa and was grateful that so many fans made the trip as well to support the team.
“Foust Logging was a wonderful support to our wrestling program,” said Garner.
