George Robert Counts, 81

George Robert Counts, 81, of Moyie Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 in Bonners Ferry.

Memorial services will be announced later.

He was born Dec. 19, 1929 in Alleghany County, Virg., the son of A.P. and Ella (Dameron) Counts.  He attended schools in Virginia and worked in sawmills there.  He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years during the Korean and Viet Nam wars, prior to his retirement in 1974.  During his military career he was stationed in Japan, Korea, Viet Nam, Alaska and Okinawa in addition to various state side assignments.

He was married to Kiyoko Nishigima on May 12, 1963 in Tokyo, Japan.  Following his retirement they moved to Moyie Springs, where they have since resided.

George was a lifetime member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting in the area, working on his rifles and reloading equipment.  He also taught youth hunter safety courses in the area.

He is survived by his wife, Kiyoko of Moyie Springs,  son Robert Counts of Newport, Ore., daughter Loretta (Nana) Counts of Yokahama, Japan and by four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
