The Bonners Ferry Warriors (2-4) lost to the league leader Coeur d’Alene Vikings (8-0) in a contest that that was a close contest through the first half of the game in Coeur d’Alene.

The Vikings took a first quarter lead (3-0) with goals from Chris Meyers, Roby Jenkins, and Jarrett Johnson before Zach Wilson and Stephen Bachmann found the back of net for the Warriors in the second quarter.  Viking’s Meyers added his second goal of the game to end out the scoring in the second quarter resulting in the Viking’s 4-2 lead at the end of the first half of the game.

In the third quarter Meyers added two more goals and Cory Mortensen also scored for the Vikings to run the score to 7-2 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Vikings Austin Volking scored before the Warriors responded with goals from Colin MacDonald, and Mitch Carroll.

Although the Warriors lost the game with the final score of 8-4, Coach Niewieroski said there were some encouraging points to be noted.

The Warriors are the only league team to keep the Vikings in single digit scoring for the two games that they have played.  In both games the score was close (4-2) at halftime.

In the later game the Warriors out- shot the Vikings 22-19, and had three shots hit the post.  If it wasn’t for the Vikings goalie, who stuffed four point blank shots, the outcome of the game may have been different.

Coach Niewieroski had high praise for his goalie, Wesley Kreiner, who stopped 11 shots, and  defensemen, Shane Hefferman, Jed Allen, Kyle Mullin, Clayton Wang, and Morris McAllister who helped  shut down the high scoring Viking offense.  Stephen Bachmann also won 50 percent of the face-offs (eight) in order to help the Warriors retain ball control.

The Warriors play Lake City High School travel to Moscow to play Logos Christian School on May 6.
