Local man killed when train hits vehicle

A  Bonners Ferry man was killed when his vehicle was hit by a train at about 8:54 a.m. Monday.

Richard E.  Kelson, 77,  pulled out of his tree farm at a private railroad crossing and was struck by a north bound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Train near Mirror Lake Golf Course.

Kelson was driving a 2002 Volkswagon Jetta. The man was not wearing a seat belt, according to an Idaho State Police report.

ISP are still investigating the accident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
