Moscow Course Challenges; Badgers Rise to Occasion
On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Bob Weisel Moscow Invitational takes place on the Virgil Phillips Farm just north of Moscow.
It features a downhill start, uphill finish, and lots of up and down in between.
The competition included 5A programs such as Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston and also gave the Badgers the opportunity to run against smaller schools -3A rivals Timberlake and various 1A and 2A schools like Troy, Potlatch, and Logos.
The Badger boys placed fourth, behind Coeur d'Alene, Moscow, and Logos. The Badger girls were eighth out of none teams. Jacob Callister came in seventh place with a time of 17:43 and Micah Krmpotich came in ninth with 17:57 and placed in the top 10. Bradley Thompson, Jacob Perkins, Tyson Boorman, Jake Stimmel, and Jared Lysne rounded out the boys varsity.
“The boys ran well. Jacob Perkins had an outstanding race. He has been moving forward all season,” said coach Paul Bonnell.
In the girls race, Lily York showed significant improvement.
“I'm glad to see how she's grown this season,” said Bonnell. “Aimee Sayers, Katy Hiatt, Elise Couplet, Katrina Svec, and Marie Chary completed the girls varsity. "We were missing some girls to illness (Nonnie and Jordan), but the other girls stepped up.”
In the J.V. boys race, Luke Reoch went out to win. He ended up second to a Coeur d'Alene high's Estes, but his performance solidly placed him back on varsity for next Saturday's meet at Sandpoint.
Alec Perkins, Josh Dufresne, and Tucker Cavender also competed in the JV race.
“'m looking forward to Sandpoint. It's close to home (Riley Creek, Laclede). It will have solid competition, and we should have everybody healthy and racing, including all the athletes who started the season late,” Bonnell said.
The Sandpoint invite starts at 9 a.m, Saturday, Oct. 8.
