Why are some victims compensated?

| October 13, 2011 8:58 AM

We honor all who were killed or injured in the 9-11 terrorist attack against our country.

It was a tragic and sad day for America.  For  about 10 days, almost every TV channel gave you a choice of 9-11 or 9-11.

Pearl Harbor is lucky to get five minutes on its Dec. 7, 1941 anniversary date.

What burns me is the compensation given to the victim’s family. At the time of 9-11, a ,military man who was ordered into a dangerous area of the world and gave his life for his country was given this compensation for his family, $6,000 direct death benefit half of it taxable, $1,750 in burial costs, $833 per month for the spouse until they remarried and $211 per month per child until they reached age 18.

The family of the 9-11 victim, who just happened to be in the wrong place and the wrong time, or between $250,000 and $4.7 million. First responders victims family got an additional $1.1 million.

What compensation does the family of a man killed in a logging accident, mine disaster or farming accident get?

How about the person killed in an auto accident. Do they get millions from our government?

The Yorkers got millions in compensation and some were angry that they did not get more. Most New Yorkers I have met were rude and always angry about something but then can you blame them? After all, the light at then end of their tunnel is New Jersey.
