The Badger junior varsity football team took victory over the junior varsity Lumberjacks last Thursday at home with score of 42 to 2.

From the first snap of the ball it was evident the junior varsity football team was in the house.

The Badgers started the game on defense and after a quick three and out, Badger quarterback Connor Bennett piloted the team down the field for the first six points.

The final plunge do the touchdown came with a 10-yard run off tackle by Anthony Skeen. The two-point conversion gave the Badgers an 8-0 lead.

The fired up Badgers continued to pound away at the St. Maries defense with solid running plays and well executed passes, culminated in another touchdown of 30 yards by Skeen, and an eight-yard touchdown by Kyler Rice. With just a few minutes left in the half Skeen once again barreled onto the end zone from 15 yards out for his third marker.

Much of the yardage gain of the first half was also attributed to the efforts of Ethan Racer and Ben Neumeyer, who relentlessly pounded the ball repeatedly into Lumberjack territory behind a powerful offensive line that bulldozed the Jack’s defense down the filed.  At the half, the Badgers went to the locker room up by a score of 30 to 0.

The  blue pride returned to the field in the second half to continue its dominance of the game.

It was however, the execution of the tenacious Badger defense that fired up the rest of the team as well as the blue pride fans. Stellar performance of the defense as a whole held the St. Maries offense to under 65 yards for the game, and resulted in a combined 14 sacks for a loss of yards.

Neumeyer went headhunting in the Jack’s back field and with bone jarring hits that probably could be heard as far away as Boise, ripped off five solo sacks.

Parker Davis and Matt Sabin added three sacks a piece. Quinn Cummings added tow more, along with one sack by Mike Brown. Rice picked off two interceptions for 45 and 15 yards; both for Badger touchdowns.

St. Maries only score came late in the third quarter after the Badgers stopped the Lumberjacks from scoring at the two yard line on the fourth down.  On the subsequent play from the offense the Badger running back was stopped in the end zone for a safety.  At the final gun the Badger junior varsity left the field with a score 42-2.

The next junior varsity football game will be t 6 p.m., today against Medical Lake at home.
