Glen Myron Peaster, 89

| August 20, 2012 8:16 AM

Glen Myron Peaster departed this life on Aug. 10, 2012, reaching age 89. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mountain View Mennonite Church, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, with interment in Mountain View Mennonite Cemetery.

The family’s dear husband, dad and grandpa, Glen Myron Peaster was born to Joseph and Susie Becker Peaster on June 12, 1923, in Montezuma, Kan.

He grew up in western Kansas in the “dirty thirties.” With his mother being an invalid, his childhood was not easy. He often expressed his appreciation of those that touched his life in this time.

He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in 1939 at 16. His faith was very precious to him.

Together with his parents and four brothers, he moved to Winton, Calif., in 1941. He worked on the Arkalien Ranch and farmed sweet potatoes.

He married Ethel Dirks on April 16, 1944, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. They lived in Winton, Calif., and Bonners Ferry, Idaho, until settling in Bonners Ferry in 1954.

They enjoyed 68 years of joys and sorrows together. The loss of their son, Lavern, in a tragic accident in 1964, was a very difficult time for Glen and Ethel.

He lived his life with enthusiasm and vibrancy. He never met a stranger. He loved his Savior, his family, and his fellow travelers, upon meeting someone he often asked, “Do you love the Lord?”

Glen and Ethel’s home was open to all. Often unexpected guests graced their table. Their mission seemed to be providing a home for many young people.

His family treasures his devotions, his prayers and love of singing. In his prayers he often expressed his thankfulness that God brought him from darkness to the “marvelous light.” He loved to go to church and it was important for him to be on time.

He was employed at the sawmill and feed store before starting his dairy. He enjoyed his chosen occupation and also his hobby of raising chickens. A good game of horseshoes with friends and family was a good way to end a day.

Left to cherish precious memories are his loving wife, Ethel; daughters, Barbara and Bill Mastre of Bruneau, Idaho; Laura of Bonners Ferry; Aldonna and Les Isaac of Bruneau; Louetta and Robert Koehn of Connell, Wash.; Doreen and Kurt Wedel of Liberty, Ky.; Glenette and Kevin Becker of Princeton, Idaho; and one son, Ron and Jonnlyn Peaster of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

He also is survived by 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and one great- great grandson. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Bolcoa; three brothers: Raymond and wife Arlene; Leonard and wife Darlene; Homer and wife Velda; and sister-in-law, Christina, all of California.

He also is survived by his wife’s family: Dessie and Leonard Regehr of Buhl, Idaho; Ernie and JoAnn Dirks, Joanne and Bob Mastre, Larry and Judy Dirks, Dennis and Donna Dirks, Darlene and Willie Peachey, all of Bonners Ferry; Bob and Michelle Dirks of Grand View, Idaho; brother-in-law Verden Boese of Pincher Creek, Alberta; and sisters-in-laws Iva Dirks of Bonners Ferry and Phyllis Dirks, Federal Way, Wash.
