Beloved Dr. Lucero passes
Ernest Lucero, M.D. passed away at his home unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 15. His wife was with him at the time.

The Idaho Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will hold an induction banquet on Saturday, March 23 at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge.Among the inductees will be Conrad Garner, current Bonners Ferry coach; Merrill Owens, a longtime official; Ron Wood, former coach at Kellogg High; Greg Cossette, longtime assistant coach at Post Falls and Wallace coach Bob Schreiber.

Badger wrestlers keep 'B Cup'
Bonners Ferry won the Badger Bulldog ‘B Cup’ for the third year in a row in front of a large crowd on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Badger wrestlers won 42-33 over Sandpoint Bulldogs.

BONNERS FERRY — Resounding opposition was voiced at the public hearing for the second attempt of annexation by the city of Bonners Ferry on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Trustees vote to close Riverside
BONNERS FERRY —Riverside High students will transition to Bonners Ferry High School at semester’s end in January. The Boundary County School District 101 Board of Trustees voted 3-1 on Dec. 6 to move the students and close Riverside High School.
Boys win two games
The Badger boys varsity basketball players were on a winning streak last week when they won both away games at Clark Fork and Newport.
Badgers third at St. Maries
The Bonners Ferry High School wrestling team traveled to St. Maries and took third place in a 10- team tournament Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.

Tax implications with voided annexation
After the city annexation ordinance was enacted on Dec. 6, 2011, residents of the annexation had to pay city taxes instead of county taxes. Now with the annexation ordinance invalid after last week’s court decision, there is question about the taxes collected. “The money will be held in a trust account until the court decides what to do with the money,” said Commissioner Ron Smith at the Dec. 3 county commissioner meeting at which many city officials were present.
Shooters compete in Tri-State event
Shooting athletes of the Libby Rock Crushers competed in the first annual Tri-State Triple Challenge in Coeur d’Alene Saturday, Nov. 17, and in their first competition, a local athlete was runner-up.

Youth wrestlers place at State Championships

BONNERS FERRY — After a slow start, the Badgers couldn’t catch up to Lakeland at the home game on Dec. 1. Lakeland won 51-23 over the Badgers.
Varsity girls defeat Hawks
The Badgers built a 18-5 first quarter lead and held on to beat the 4A Lakeland Hawks 45-39 on Dec. 1.
