Girls defeat Clark Fork, Newport

| December 13, 2012 8:00 AM

The Lady Badgers scored two wins last week over Clark Fork and Newport.

They beat a short-handed Clark Fork Wampus Cat team 55-17 on Dec. 6. Clark Fork was missing their leading scorer due to a broken foot and another starter out with a concussion. Bonners Ferry had a comfortable 31-11 half-time lead and worked on some half-time adjustments to a 21-3 third quarter advantage.

Badgers had a balanced attack with 10 of 13 varsity players scoring. Jasmine Hill filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Savannah Woods added 10 points and Aubree Wasmer contributed eight points and eight rebounds respectively.

On Dec. 8, the Bonners Ferry won 49-40 despite a slow start against Newport. The Lady Badgers fell into a 7-13 first quarter hole but climbed out to take a two point half-time lead and led the entire second half.

“I think we were intimidated with the physicality of the game early...but after we realized that’s how the game was going to be, we adjusted,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “It’s good to be playing regularly now so we can keep adjusting and working on what we need to improve on to reach our team goals.”

Jasmine Hill once again led the Badgers with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

“Jasmine is playing very solid right now. It’s nice how composed she is at the end of a game to keep us under control,” said Hinthorn.

Savannah Woods also added eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.
