Late Thursday night after Zips closed, someone broke into the restaurant through the drive-through-window.

Acting Bonners Ferry Chief of Police Joel Minor said after the burglar broke the glass window, the suspect crawled inside the window and broke open the drive through cash register only to find the cash drawer was not inside.

The suspect then apparently fled as nothing else in the restaurant seemed to be disturbed.

An employee at Zips said it is routine to take the cash drawer out at closing and it is never left in the register with cash.

Minor said the burglar most likely got spooked and escaped back out through the drive though window without entering other areas of the restaurant.

Minor said the Bonners Ferry Police would like anyone who may have witnessed the burglary to contact police at 267-3105.
