8th grade girls second at St. Maries invite

 Taking second place in St. Maries the eighth grade girls basketball team traveled to St. Maries  Feb. 11, to play in the Invitational Tournament.

The Badgers played River City our of Post Falls in their first game. Badgers 29, River City 14.

Defense was the key to the Badgers winning their opening game, according to coach Pat Beherens.

Game one vs. River City of Posts Falls.  Badgers 29, River City 14.

Behrens said Kertsin Oxford and Malorie Stippich locked down the perimeter with eight and four steals respectively, while Jaiden Everhart patrolled the inside with five steals. 

Abby Davis led the team in scoring with eight points. 

Other scoring Badgers were  Everhart with six,  Regan Byars  with five, Hannah Lysne  with two, Oxford with four, Cierra Woods and Stippich had two.

In game two vs. Kellogg, he Badgers heavily out scored with 45 points to River City’s 10. 

The girls passed the ball well in their second game totaling 14 assists led by  Stippich and  Woods with four each. Aaliyah Zarate shot the ball well and finished with 10 points as all nine Badgers hit the scoring column and the girls advanced to the championship game. 

Other scoring Badgers were  Davis with nine, Everhart  with eight, Byars, Lysne, and  Oxford four, Morgan, Stippich and  Woods all had two.

Championship Game vs. Coeur d’ Alene Charter Academy.  Cd’ A Charter 29, Badgers 20.  The girls met their strongest open of the season and battled hard against the tall athletic Panthers, but came up short in the end. 

Everhart led the girls in scoring with six points, Zarate led girls on the boards with four and Davis led the team with three steals.  Other scoring Badgers Oxford five, Byars  four, Davis and Zarate two and Lysne one.

At Timberlake on Feb. 7the Badgers took Priest River with a score of 42-25.

Everhart led the Badger win with 15 points and six rebounds while Byars grabbed nine rebounds and pitched in seven points. Oxford totaled six points, six rebounds and four assists.
