Capurso to make Dist. A seat bid

Boundary County businesswoman Donna Capurso formally announced her candidacy Thursday for a seat in Idaho’s House of Representatives.

Capurso is seeking the Republican nomination for the house’s District 1 A seat, a position that’s held by Eric Anderson of Priest Lake.

“I am one of ‘We the People,’ and if I can help those that need my assistance in my community, I will not hesitate to do so,” Capurso said in a statement declaring her candidacy.

Capurso chairs the Boundary County Republican Central Committee and has taken stands on issues in both Bonner and Boundary counties.

She stood up for Jeremy Hill when he was being prosecuted for killing a grizzly bear in Boundary County while trying to protect his family. She has also been outspoken and involved in attempting to push back against a U.S. Fish & Wildlife plan to designate 375,000 acres of forest in the Panhandle as critical caribou habitat, which is seen as a threat to public lands access.

Capurso regards both incidents as a federal government assault on both counties and believes lawmakers need to be better in tune to the issues affecting their constituents and willing to make a stand, not just when it is politically self-serving.

Capurso contends Idaho can lead the way in restoring the proper role of government, adhering to free market principles to surmount economic challenges and reaffirming the values of the nation’s founding fathers.

Capurso, a mother and grandmother, is the owner/broker of Selkirk Mountain Real Estate in Moyie Springs. She and her husband, Terry, have lived in Idaho for 16 years. She volunteers with the Festival at Sandpoint, Lost in the 50s and Festival of Trees. She also serves on the Idaho Real Estate Commission’s education council in Boise.

Capurso said her campaign is based on the principles America was founded on and restoring the constitutional foundation and values that made this country great.

“One thing people can count on from me is my promise of never changing my core values in order to garner votes. I will always be pro-life, and pro-God, pro-Second Amendment rights,” she said.
