Caribou idea just dandy

| January 19, 2012 4:56 AM

The USFWS has decided that we must surrender our local county land, not for economic development or improving the lives of our human residents, but instead to protect the welfare of 46 endangered caribou that may or may not decide to migrate through our forest land.

We must surrender 375,562 acres of county land or 8160 acres per caribou from all human activities that might prevent or endanger their survival.

Wow that seems like a dandy idea. First of all this is not federal land this is State land, therefore we the people in this local county and state have the right to decide what is done with our land.

We have elected county commissioners that must support the will of the people here and we have elected a sheriff who enforces the letter of the law and protects the citizens of this county from those who would attempt to violate our state and county laws.

Therefore, let the people be heard through the voting system and if the majority of our citizens oppose this thievery let our elected representatives respect our wishes and inform the USFWS that we will not recognize this silly restriction and that they will be arrested by our state authorities if they try to enforce this unjust mandate on our citizens.

We can still protect the interests of these wonderful caribou by allowing our state Fish and Wildlife officers to enforce our local wildlife protection laws and ensure their survival.
